First Saturday Neighborhood Cleanup — Mt Baker Hub Alliance

Every month volunteers gather to collect garbage and help beautify our neighborhood. On average, we collect about 15 bags of garbage per clean up, which means 1,000’s of small pieces of plastic that do not find their way into Puget Sound.

Seattle friends and neighbors!! Please join us for our ongoing ‘First Saturday’ of the month clean-up effort,

Saturday, September 7th, 2019, 9:00am-12:00pm

We meet on the NW corner of the Art Space building, just off Rainier Ave. S. & S. Forest St., by the Mt. Baker Light Rail Station.

Look for the Mt. Baker Hub Alliance sign, a table with sign-up list, gloves, pickers, orange vests and bright yellow bags to collect garbage, maybe a colorful umbrella, weather dependent, all next to the water ox mural at Hoa Mai Preschool.

Come spend time in the Hub, admire the murals, old and new, and help beautify our wonderful neighborhood on Saturday morning.

See you there!!

President

Tour de Pier Seattle

On Saturday, September 14, 2019, the award-winning stationary cycling charity event Tour de Pier will be making its Pacific Northwest debut, with proceeds to benefit a trio of nonprofit cancer charities: Virginia Mason Cancer Institute; the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research and the Uncle Kory Foundation.

The Tour de Pier Seattle brings one of the “hottest” indoor fitness activities – stationary cycling – to the gorgeous outdoors. Cyclists will be overlooking stunning Lake Union near downtown Seattle while pedaling to defeat cancer. Seattle’s best instructors and celebrity guests will spin riders through a five-hour session with energizing music and loads of excitement. In addition to cycling, the public can enjoy a free Health & Fitness Expo, live entertainment, great tunes, healthy food and beverages, as well as interactive health & fitness booths.

How It Works:

Participants register to reserve a bike for five one-hour sessions. Recruit up to four teammates or ride solo. Registration fee per rider is $150 and will include a bike, event shirt and participant gift bag.

Each bike team must raise a minimum of $750 (registration fees will count toward the $750). Online registration closes on Thursday, August 15 at midnight or as space permits.

The Ride For Safe Streets

http://ride4safestreets.org

It’s time to stop backpedalling Seattle’s biking, walking, and transit plans. Transportation causes too many deaths, climate change, and economic inequality.

Join us on Sunday, June 16 for a fun, music-filled, parade-like protest to call for leadership to boldly act on transportation. We’ll meet at Seattle City Hall, 1 p.m., for a rally then ride with hundreds of people down 4th Avenue to Westlake Park.

There will be live bands, public officials, and plenty of fun as we push Seattle leaders to take action.

World Day of Remembrance Community Memorial Gathering

Join us on the afternoon of World Day of Remembrance for a community memorial gathering for those impacted by traffic violence.

There are an average of 20 lives lost and 150 lives altered by major injuries each year on Seattle's streets. But these statistics don't share the story of a person's life, of the way that a crash can effect a family, a friend group, and a community.

If you or a member of your community has been impacted by traffic violence, we welcome you to this space for a community moment of remembrance. This event is free, please RSVP at the Tickets link above.

Sunday, Nov 18, 2:00 - 3:30 pm
Impact Hub Seattle (Pioneer Square) 3rd Floor

We will be in the 3rd floor learning space with snacks and beverages.

If you are interested in learning more information about an ongoing healing circle or other support, please contact clara@seattlegreenways.org.

DIRECTIONS:
Impact Hub is located at the end of the 2nd Ave protected bike lanes and has ample bicycle parking in the basement. It is located within easy walking distance of most downtown bus routes and the Pioneer Square Light Rail Station. Street parking is free on Sunday, with limited parking available directly in front of Impact Hub and on nearby streets. There are several pay lots in the vicinity.

The facility is wheelchair accessible, has all-gender bathrooms, and is dog-friendly. Kids and families welcome.
